Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
We start our Morocco tour in 5 days with the pick up in Marrakech by our driver/guide. It will be at the airport or at any other point in the city, if you are already there. Our first kilometers will take us to the High Atlas, a mountain range that we will cross through the Tizi n’Tichka pass, at about 2,200 meters above sea level. Its landscape of snow-capped peaks from autumn to spring will accompany us on the ascent and descent.
Already on the other side of the mountain range, our first important stop will be the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. This fortified enclosure built in adobe is one of the best preserved examples of Berber defensive architecture in past centuries… although many will remember it for having served for the filming of scenes from the third season of Game of Thrones.
After the visit and after leaving behind Ouarzazate, the ‘Hollywood of Morocco’, we will enter the ‘road of the thousand kasbahs’ and two beautiful valleys: the Roses and the Dades. In the latter we will spend our first night in a charming riad, where dinner will be served beforehand.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Tinjdad – Touroug – Erfoud – Merzouga
After breakfast at the riad, we return to the road because we expect curves … literally: one of the highlights of the morning are the Todra Gorges, chiseled by the erosion of the bed of this humble river, creating walls and gorges through which the road runs.
On this second day of our tour of Morocco in 5 days, another attraction are the palm groves of Tinjdad and Touroug, which we will be fortunate to know on foot after a brief visit to the picturesque town of Tinerhir. The tour does not stop yet and continues to Erfoud, famous for its valuable fossils and marble workshops.
And at the end of the day comes the long-awaited moment for many travelers: entering the most fascinating part of the Moroccan Sahara, namely the desert of Merzouga and the dunes of Erg Chebbi. We will do it after parking our 4×4 and taking our 8×8, i.e. the noble dromedaries that will walk through the fine golden sand to our tents camp.
The sunset in the desert will be the prelude to a dinner full of charm under the starry sky of the desert. And after that, it will be time to rest in the comfortable traditional Berber tents.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert – Erg Chebbi – Rissani- Ifrane- Fez
The third day of this Morocco tour in 5 days begins with another unique experience, on a par with those of the previous day: watching the sunrise over the sea of dunes of Erg Chebbi. Its whimsical formations of fine sand will acquire its particular golden color, while the sky gradually says goodbye to the stars until the next night. After this spectacle, we will have breakfast in the tents camp and return to Merzouga, where our vehicle awaits us to continue the tour.
The first stop on this day’s tour is Rissani, a small town with one of the most beautiful medinas in the south of the country. In addition, here there are still scenes that seem to be taken out of history books, as its usual parking of donkeys.
The tour will continue through the Ziz Valley, which we will take in a northerly direction up its course. That will take us to the Middle Atlas, where we will discover landscapes of surprising beauty. This is the case of Ifrane, the ‘Moroccan Switzerland’ for its gabled buildings, and especially the National Park of the Cedars, where this tree is the real protagonist … with permission of the many Barbary monkeys that live in it.
Between Berber villages, where we will stop to take pictures, we will reach the goal of this day: Fez. Here awaits a charming riad located in the heart of the city, where you will have dinner and spend the night to rest for the next day.
Day 4 : Fez – Chefchaouen
In this 5 days Morocco express trip, we could not miss a day entirely dedicated to culture, whether intellectual or popular. After breakfast at the riad, one of our official guides will show you the secrets and monuments of Fez. This imperial city is one of the most beautiful in the country and preserves a spectacular medina, which for centuries has been one of the cultural centers of Islam.
Some of the monuments that you will discover during your guided tour are the Karaouine Mosque, the mausoleum of Moulay Idriss, the Nejjarine Fountain or the Medersa of Bou Anania. But you will also appreciate the charm of other more popular places, such as the famous tanners’ quarter.
This tour of Fez will last all morning and, after lunch, we will make an excursion to one of the most charming villages of North Africa: Chefchaouen, or simply Chaouen. Famous for its whitewashed walls painted in blue and white, you will feel like you are in a place unlike anything you have seen before. In addition, we will reach panoramic viewpoints to appreciate the particular location of the town, between mountains, as well as the whimsical layout of its steep streets.
The visit to Chaouen will be quiet and unhurried, because here you will have your accommodation, where you will have dinner and spend the night.
Day 5: Chefchaouen – Tangier:
After breakfast in the riad of Chaouen begins the last day of our tour of Morocco in 5 days, in which we will arrive to Tangier. In this interesting city, bathed by the Mediterranean Sea in the Strait of Gibraltar, is the international airport from which you will fly back home, or the port from which you will embark to Europe. Traveling Morocco in 5 days is never enough to know all the attractions of the country, but it is enough to live an unforgettable experience. For this reason, our affectionate farewell will also include the wish to have satisfied your expectations and a future meeting to get to know other Moroccan charms.
